Penn Yan introduced the Challenger series in 1940. (The name had been used during the early 1930s to designate a 15 ft. Row Outboard of Monowood construction.) The Challenger line included 12 ft., 14 ft. and 16 ft. boats in various deck configurations, and was produced through 1954. Built initially in Striplank configuration, it was later converted to the Striptite system.
The 14 ft. boat shown here is an excellent example of the Challenger series. She was built in 1952, and used extensively on Seneca Lake. Housed in a boathouse year-around, she was donated to the Museum in 2011.
