Campbell Runabout

Vince Campbell (1919 – 2010) built and repaired boats in his Trumansburg “Boat Shop” for nearly 40 years, beginning in 1949. Prior to opening his own business he worked at several boatyards and marinas in and around Ithaca, including the Brainard-Bilt Boat Company in Trumansburg. His product line included the full spectrum of wooden boats, from dinghies to cruisers.

The boat shown here is an excellent example of Campbell’s work. Constructed largely of marine plywood, this deep-V, hard chine 14 ft. runabout was built around 1955. The boat was donated by Vince’s family, who trailered her from their home in Tennessee to Cayuga Lake where they piloted her on through the canal system and Seneca Lake for delivery to the Museum in Geneva.
