International 14 Sailing Dinghy

The Skaneateles Boat & Canoe Company built canoes launches, rowboats, and sailboats in Skaneateles, NY from 1893 to 1932. (The business was the successor to the Bowdish Manufacturing Company which was established there in 1876.) Skaneateles B&C Co. is said to have built more than 5000 boats, and one of those is the International 14 Sailing Dinghy shown here.  Gaff rigged, her 14 ft hull was built with white cedar lapstrake planking copper riveted to steam-bent ribs, trimmed out in mahogany. Her canvas covered deck was removed during a restoration process begun by the donor. The boat had been in storage for over 40 years prior to donation to the Museum. The boat was featured only in the 1932 catalog, and is thought to be one of 22 International Sailing Dinghies sold that year.
