Course Runs for 3 Consecutive Weekends

This exciting "Hands-On" course gives students the opportunity to learn to build a classic cedar canvas canoe using the techniques developed in the 1800s.  In this course students will learn how to:

Construct the canoe over a form using steam bent planks

Install a hand carved carrying yoke, seats, decks, and thwarts

Cover with canvas and paint

Varnish the inside and add brass stem bands


The conclusion of this course results in the canoe being raffled off to any interested students.  The winner of the raffle will have an additional materials fee of $1,000.  *There may be additional costs of paint and varnish that need to be done after the course.  All tools and materials  are provided.

BUILD A CANOE

Finger Lakes Boating Museum courses are designed to give an in depth experience in a variety of skills.  These courses range from 1-7 days and cost varies on materials needed.

INTRO TO SAILING

This course involves learning and implementing the techniques involved in removing the centerboard trunk, repairing the exposed keep as well as making and installing a new trunk for a Lightning Sailboat.

FLBM reserves the right to cancel any program with insufficient registrations.  If FLBM cancels a program, we will provide a full refund and will notify students 14 days prior to course.


Pre-registration is required for all courses including Boater Safety. 


If a student must cancel within 14 days of a course, FLBM will retain a 10% cancellation fee.
