Ever since winemaking took off in the Finger Lakes, especially around Keuka Lake, the need for personal boats for leisure and fishing increased in popularity and demand. Normally fishing and winemaking don't seem to strike very many similarities in people's minds. Yet the tourism brought to this area by the increasingly popular wines of the area emphasized a need by many tourists to "experience" the waters through small boats. Thus began the industry of small "pleasure-craft" boat building -- the trout boats and rowboats.
